I’ve always been asked whether and why

I like to wear my hair loose in my face

Or neatly pulled back with a tie

And I’ve smiled and said “both”

But I know why I like my hair left loose

For it shields my face and keeps me hidden

From the world that stares and creeps

While with my hair pulled back,

I’m so exposed and vulnerable

And they know if I’m sad, so they fake a condolence

Or if I’m happy, so they take it away

But sometimes, I purposely pull them all off of my face

So I see my world clearer

And judge them people better

And portray myself brisker

And be potent and keep my happiness and sadness

Well guarded with me.
